Home About Me House & Yard Trips

I have really enjoyed having the pond and koi, in addition to the entire yard.  While the pond has been great, there have been three nagging problems: keeping the water clear (including cleaning the "filter"), water getting under the liner, and a leak in the liner that I just can't find.  While the latter is manageable, the first two were particularly unsettling.  Compounding the issue, a new filter came out a couple of years ago that is revolutionizing smaller koi ponds (and making people rich).

This is a typical pre-rebuild picture. I looks good, but note that the small falls to the left has been turned off due to the filter problems.

My pets. Colorful, don't have to walk them, and I'm not allergic! The water isn't bad here, but could/should be so much better.

Another shot of the pond in the pre-rebuild so-so condition.

The final straw, making me know I need to rebuild the pond this year. The top flat rock on the falls shifted just a little bit, water started to seep under the liner, down the hill under the falls, and in less than two days there was more water under the liner than in the pond! Glad I caught this in time.

I hired some day labor to move the rocks. I was hoping to keep him for the whole job, but he has a significant motivation problem.

This is the temporary pond, known as a 300 gallon stock tank. I may use this as a 2nd smaller pond in the future.

This is the new fancy filter unit. I'll write more as it is installed.

Just about all the rock has been removed.

Ready to rebuild the edge.

The "hill" for the waterfall will need a lot of work.
